The International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF) is embracing technology with a new Android app designed to replace the traditional ground map. "This app will revolutionize how visitors navigate the fairground," said Rishi Sahu from Sister Nivedita University, who developed the application. The Publishers and Booksellers Guild's initiative enables visitors to locate stalls through Google-based location services at Boimela Prangan, Karunamoyee, Salt Lake. QR codes placed across the venue will let users scan and instantly access the complete stall list. "It not only makes navigation seamless but also keeps users updated about future book fairs," added Sahu.
Since 1976, IKBF has drawn millions, but this tech-driven shift caters to the modern audience. The initiative aims to enhance convenience and sustainability, aligning with global trends of integrating technology into large-scale events. With real-time notifications and instant updates, the IKBF app ensures a smoother experience, allowing visitors to focus on books, discussions, and cultural programs rather than navigation woes.
The transition marks a milestone in IKBF’s journey, blending tradition with digital innovation. With effortless navigation at their fingertips, visitors can immerse themselves in the literary celebration like never before. The 2025 edition of IKBF is set to be a game-changer, setting a precedent for other literary events across the country.
