After screening at Cannes Film Festival and much admiration from all generations Chhaad is set to release 8th of March on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The movie delves into the journey of a writer cum school teacher and how her idea of terrace is the connecting thread between her essence of Freedom and identity crisis. She comprehends how the terrace is her abode of solitude and escapes when she is barred access from it.

"Every creative soul needs a sanctuary. For Mitra (played by Paoli Dam), the terrace is that sacred space. Beneath the open sky, her mind roams free, and her soul finds peace. Here, away from the world's confines, she embraces freedom, escape, and the quiet whispers of her own dreams" said Paoli Dam.

Indrani Chakraborty (director) tells us the journey of "Chhaad", from its inception way back in 2005, when the first draft of the screenplay was written and over the years it refined into a better script which could be finally made into a movie. In 2018-19 she gets the chance to finally make her dream into a reality. National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), stepped up to produce this movie after their 10 year hiatus.

Facing a minor setback during COVID, the movie finally completed filming in the year 2022. And ever since, the movie saw a different journey all together. From going to a market screening at Cannes, to the World Premiere at International Film Festival of South Asia, then at KIFF where it wins a special jury award in the National Competition Section, and many more screenings at international Film festivals in Dhaka, Sri Lanka, Australia, London, etc. the response she has gotten from the people all across the globe makes her realise how chhaad also connects with the common people.

Releasing on 8th March of this spring, it would be interesting to track how this critically acclaimed film does financially, attempting to make its collection go through the chhaad at the box office.
