In a vibrant celebration of scholarship, creativity, and cultural thought, Sister Nivedita University Press (SNU Press) unveiled five compelling new titles at the Press Corner of the 49th International Kolkata Book Fair, reaffirming the university’s growing presence in the academic and literary landscape.
The launch ceremony was attended by eminent personalities including Dr. Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Pro-Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University, Ashok Ranjan Thakur, the university’s first Vice Chancellor, Dr. Subir Dhar, Dean of the School of Humanities, and renowned painter Samir Aich, whose presence added cultural gravitas to the occasion.

Among the books released, Navigating Careers in the Age of AI by Dr. Sanku Bose, Vice Chancellor of SNU, emerged as a highlight. Speaking at the event, Dr. Bose reflected on the challenges he faced while writing the book, recalling how one of his professors had once considered the project nearly impossible. Undeterred, he persevered, transforming the challenge into a meaningful contribution for future generations. Emphasising humane education, he remarked, “A dumb child is better than a pressured child,” underscoring the need for empathy and balance in an era driven by performance and technology.

Another notable release was The Mojo Workbook by Minal Pareek, Dean of the School of Media and Science. She explained that the book features chapters written by prominent academicians from across India, along with international contributors. Highlighting a crucial gap in media education, she noted that mass communication students largely rely on hands-on experience, as there are few structured learning resources available. The Mojo Workbook, she said, serves as a reflective journal for aspiring media professionals, offering guidance when navigating the complexities of modern-day storytelling.
Other titles launched included Visualizing the Impulse by Pankaj Pawar, Professor of Fine Arts; three edited volumes by Mou Chakraborty under Aajkal on cultural figures such as Tapas Sen and Shishir Bhaduri; and Born of Clay by Mala Pal.
The event showcased SNU Press’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, blending academic rigor with creative and cultural expression, and enriching the intellectual fabric of contemporary India.
