People visit the book fair not only to sharpen their minds but also to sharpen their taste buds.

Alongside the growing crowd on stall fronts, people also make a beeline to stick a finger in the pickle metaphorically speaking.

Pickles, popularly known as 'āφāϚāĻžāϰ,' are fairly mouthwatering for Bengalis. The International Kolkata Book Fair does boast of a few pickle stalls for people to savour their tongues in between munching words.

This year has been rather bright in case of sales. Especially with the addition of new items on the menu, namely the 'Papad'—a wafer made from lentils—and the 'āϕ⧂āϞ⧇āϰ āφāϚāĻžāϰ' āφāϚāĻžāϰ'—pickle made from the Indian Jujube, it has been selling like hot cakes.

Where one side of the book fair serves unblemished books to the book lovers, the other side hands out an exceptional range of pickles.

These stalls offer an inviting welcome to a flavour land of tanginess amid the scent of fresh books for the people with wacky taste buds.
